Day 4: This person inspires me

There are a lot of people in my everyday life that inspire me, and then there are famous people who inspire me. My latest celebrity "crush" is Nick Bostrom, a Swedish philosopher and an author, and before him it was Stromae. But ask anybody who truly knows me and they'll tell you no one comes even close to Elon Musk what comes to admiration from my part.

Last year I read Musk's biography (by Ashlee Vance) and not so surprisingly I came to understand his choices better than just reading a bunch of articles and watching interviews. When closing the last page, it was clear to me what I could learn from him. Here are the rules I learned from Musk:
1) Always have a goal in mind and do your best to work towards it. Even if you think it's crazy, do it anyway. Even if the probability of failure is grand, do it anyway.
2) Do not give into other people's opinions about you. Actually, don't give into your own opinions about your work. If you think it's important, it will be worth the shot.
3) To excel some sacrifices need to be made.
4) Lose fear.
5) Never lose sight.


Musk has nearly bankrupted, has lived with his friends at the most desperate times, has revolutionized not only car industry, but also space exploration and don't even get me started on business building, work ethic or some other boring stuff. He has five kids (all boys), chose to do things because he thought those mattered in the grand scale and has not been afraid to say it out loud when things stopped serving him. Loyal to his style Musk is still doing great and in some respect crazy things, yet his net worth remains at a little over 13 billion US dollars. Not that the number says it all, but it surely says something and it's dedicated to those who ridiculed his ideas.

Simply put, you should just do what you thought you were set out to do. That, ladies and gentlemen, is all the inspiration I'll need.

Tonight I removed all of my followers on Instagram. It was a private account with some 200+ followers, but I admit, removing most of them actually hurt. I heart enough

About a month ago I woke up to my snooze alarm clock. Usually I stay in bed for five minutes with my eyes closed after waking up, thinking about all the good things I expect from the day. That morning though I realized I had been snoozing too much and we were running late, so I jumped out of bed and started dressing up. Suddenly I felt my pulse rising. My heart seemed to be beating out of my chest. As usual, I was wearing my Fitbit, so it was easy to see what the current heart rate was. It was over 170 and I had just woken up. I called my husband, who was on his way to work. I told him something was up with my heart. He said he was coming back home. I asked my 10-year-old daughter to come to talk to me and I had to do something I wish I did not need to impose on her. I told her if I pass out, she should call an ambulance, because my heart was beating way too fast at that moment and I was feeling very vulnerable. Icy rain reveals personality

I was born and raised in Finland and needless to say, I have experienced cold, snowy winters. Ten years ago I moved to the Netherlands and since then I have experienced cold, rainy winters that sometimes turn into warm, rainy winters. Today I happened to be picking up my kids from school just when icy drizzle was scheduled. Yes, I should've dressed everyone in rain proof clothing, but usually we manage that one kilometer in a drizzle no problem. I evaluated the rain wasn't going to bother us too much, but I completely forgot to calculate in the effect of the ice cold rain. My kids have proper rain attire. Too bad I had left it all at home. When we were leaving school, a boat was passing and our bridge was closed.
